About Fujairah

Fujairah is one of the most attractive tourist and travel destinations in the region, and has a lot of attractions and activities to offer. It is also one of the most historically significant parts of the UAE and some significant archaeological finds show that man’s presence in the area dates back to the Iron Age. Historical sites and monuments are rife and ideal for a day’s sight-seeing on a Fujairah holiday. Aside from Fujairah’s historic fort, about 40 miles north of Fujairah City is the Al Bidya Mosque. Dating back almost 400 years this spectacular building displays some fine examples of engineering, with four huge domes being supported by one central column, almost defying gravity. Also, the mosque boasts some incredible stone carvings on the inside with ornate shelves which hold the holy Quran. A popular destination for visitors and locals alike is the green oasis of Al Madhab Park. Here you will find a carpet of greenery produced by grass, plants, trees and wild flowers. This is a popular spot for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the main city as well as families with small children. Further out of town but certainly worth the effort is Ain Al Ghamour. This tranquil mountainous area is situated about 25 miles south of the city and the natural spring waters attract people from all walks of life who are looking for relief from their ailments. The waters reach a temperature of 60 degrees centigrade and are said to help in the relief of problems such as arthritis, rheumatism and back spasms.

The real beauty of the state of Fujairah is the combination of city life and ocean side recreational activities. In a matter of an hour you can transform your surroundings from the hectic streets to long sandy beaches which are lapped by light blue waters. Fujairah offers a wonderful coastline with pristine stretches of sand beaches and clear waters of the Gulf of Oman. The ocean waters to the north offer a plethora of activities to enjoy including snorkelling, yachting, fishing and deep sea diving. There are a number of dive centres in the Al Aquah area of the coast offering deep sea dives and snorkelling trips. Here you can hire equipment or take part in one of the many organised diving groups that will enable you to enjoy the marvellous underwater sites such as tropical fish and coral reefs. Something worth considering is a boat trip along the coast from the marina. Here you will find a whole host of boats and yachts of all shapes and sizes. You can take a spin in a small two berth motor boat or even hire a larger vessel with its own crew to make your voyage more relaxing. For the more adventurous windsurfing equipment is available to hire and if the gentle sea breezes are in your favour this really is a great way to enjoy this idyllic coastal area. Stretching out along the north-eastern coastal peninsular is a vast range of first class hotels and holiday resorts. The golden sands and blue ocean views have lead to this part of the state being the place to stay when on Fujairah tours and breaks. Many are based around the natural deep water port and provide a fine mix of top class accommodation with restaurants, bars and nightlife to match. Needless to say seafood is a popular delicacy in this part of the state with a number of fine restaurants and eateries providing fresh fish caught just off the shore. Le Meridien Hotel at the Al Aqah beach resort offers guests and passersby alike the opportunity to sample their fine menu. Being the only state on the eastern side of The UAE peninsular and being largely mountainous there is somewhat of a micro climate in Fujairah. October through to March is generally the coolest time and also experiences the most rainfall. The summer months can see temperatures easily soar above 40 degrees C!
